The Best Chili Ever
This chili recipe came from my grandpa, it has the perfect blend of spicy and sweetness. The secret ingredient that really makes it special is brown sugar, it adds just enough sweetness and brings all the flavors together. It's perfect for parties, an easy dinner, or a night in, and it can be made ahead and frozen for later.
Ingredients
1 pound of ground turkey meat
1 pound of sweet or regular Italian sausage
1 yellow sweet onion
3 cloves of garlic
1 can of kidney beans (15.5oz)
1 can of cannellini beans (15.5oz)
1 can of Rotel mild diced tomatoes
1 1.48oz Lawrys Chili packet seasoning
1/4 chili powder
1 bottle of V8 vegetable juice (46oz)
4 Tbsp brown sugar
Directions
Heat a large Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened and lightly caramelized.
Add the ground turkey and Italian sausage. Cook, breaking the meat apart as it browns, until fully cooked through.
Add the chili seasoning packet and chili powder. Stir well so the meat is evenly coated with the seasonings.
Add the kidney beans, cannellini beans, and Rotel tomatoes. Stir everything together until well combined.
Pour in the V8 vegetable juice, brown sugar, and stir. The mixture should be completely covered with liquid.
Bring the chili to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 3–6 hours, stirring occasionally so the meat doesn't stick to the bottom of the pot.
If the chili becomes too thick while simmering, add a little water as needed until it reaches your preferred consistency.
Serve warm with your favorite chili toppings.
